Margaret River Bakery Review

Margaret River Bakery is a dark mish-mash of pastry goodness, mismatched cutlery and divine coffee – the perfect place for breakfast if you’re ever down in Margaret River. If you’ve read my review about Modus Coffee in Mount Lawley, well… Margaret River Bakery comes as a very close second. With interior so unique and music that doesn’t quite suit the scene, breakfast at Margaret River Bakery is a culinary-hot-pot of eclectic goodness found right in the South West of Western Australia. The pictures speak for themselves really…

Margaret River Bakery rates a 3.8 out of 5 and here’s why…

But first, coffee.

Ah coffee. Served in different sized  and decorated mugs it wasn’t the best coffee I’ve had but add some milk and a touch of sugar, you could say the coffee at Margaret River Bakery was just a simple ‘okay’. On my first ever (and only) trip to Margaret River, my partner and I visited the Margaret River Bakery twice. Getting coffee in both instances – one take away, one dine-in. In the grand scheme of WA’s coffee scene, Margaret River Bakery’s coffee was indeed delicious but top be brutally honest,  didn’t strike me as mountain-moving or a must-try-roasted-bean experience. In saying that, I personally would rate the coffee here about a 3 out of 5. Not too bad. Not too good. Just a nice in between. If you ever visit Margaret River, I think you could go without trying the coffee. Instead, splurge on the sweet-sweet pastry good right in front of you.

What about the food?

The food. Baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph – please take equal control of the goddamn wheel because the breakfast I had here (unlike the coffee) was mountain-moving. Multiple mountains were moved by the absolute flavour-filled, rich and indulgent Canadian French Toast that was served with the thickest syrup and crisp bacon I’ve ever tried in my life. I would highly recommend this as a breakfast option should you find yourself in good ol’ Margs.

The second round at Margaret River Bakery brought me blessings in life I never knew I needed. Blessings in the form of a Frangipani Tart. I’ve dabbled in a fair few bits of pastry myself and this Frangipani Tart is a must try and probably the best thing that you can order here at the Margaret River Bakery (apart from the Canadian French Toast I just mentioned). So if you feel like you’re overwhelmed by the many sweet options available to you, do yourself the biggest favour and order this Frangipani Tart. I promise you – there will be no regrets. The food here at Margaret River Bakery deserves a solid 5 out of 5 both for presentation and flavour.

And the staff?

The staff here were very efficient and lovely. I understand that being so busy, personable service has to take the backseat. But I can’t complain! Margaret River Bakery attracts so many people from across WA. I can only imagine the bank that they are making every single day. The foot traffic is unbelievable! In saying that, the service was very prompt, waiting times were reasonable and the staff there were very polite. I’d rate the staff here about a 3.5 out of 5 – super lovely indeed but I really do believe it’s the staff that give a café/venue a little more character.

The venue itself…

I’ve never seen anything like this before. Ever. It’s amazing how much foot traffic Margaret River alone gets but the small-town vibes still maintain prevalent. Ever watched Twilight? (This is a judgement free zone and it’s okay to admit that you’ve watched even just the littlest bit). Well, that’s what Margaret River reminds me of – woods, forest, crisp cold fresh air, small-town vibes that teeter on the borderline of fantasy. Margret River Bakery definitely embodies the soul of the town itself both in it’s interior, décor, food and service. Would highly recommend scoping this renowned bakery for yourself. It’s a 4 out of 5 for me.

Overall

Margaret River Bakery is not one to miss. There’s a reason why there’s lines worth of breakky-keen people, locals and tourists alike. If you’re heading to, heading from our just moving through the beautiful South-West, Margaret River Bakery is a must. I mean… just read all the reviews!

Hope you enjoyed reading this guy. Until the next review…

Keep exploring WA.

Your gal,

Maz
